Have you ever seen The Notebook? You know the scene in the rain–Yeah, you know the scene. Well this Wisconsin proposal had all those Notebook vibes. It was on a beach with the waves crashing ashore, pouring rain, and romantic beyond belief. To top it off, it was a surprise proposal! Talk about dreamy.
We started off with a styled elopement shoot on the coast of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin. The florals were breathtaking, made by Wendy at Caan Floral and Greenhouses in Sheboygan, WI. She even made the most beautiful flower crown. I can definitely highly recommend her. So I met Ryan and Megan at Kohler-Andrae State Park north of Milwaukee, WI. Megan changed into her dress and shoes, and Ryan got his boutonniere pinned in place. We headed to the forest area of the park for their first look. Megan and Ryan were dating seriously and said that this styled shoot felt very real for them, especially because, unbeknownst to Megan, Ryan and I had been planning a proposal at the end of the shoot!
After the first look, we headed to the beach for the styled elopement ceremony. Ryan and Megan made up their own vows and I could tell that they were taking the whole thing very seriously. They were very much in love. They exchanged rings and then we moved on to the portraits session of the styled shoot. Ryan and I had a secret code phrase that I would use to let him know when it was time for the proposal. Once we had mostly wrapped things up, I was going to ask for their rings back (cheap engagement and wedding rings just for the styled shoot), and then Ryan would know that it was time to get to proposing! Megan was clearly very confused after I asked for her rings back, but then said I wanted to take a few more pictures, especially because it was raining so hard, but luckily she went with the flow. Ryan proposed and she was shocked beyond belief because she had told me earlier in the day that she thought he’d be proposing the following month. Little did she know…
